Yoga

Yoga is truly a magical practice, for as little as one hour of practice a week can have a profound effect on your physical, mental and emotional well-being.

There are many different forms of yoga, and it can be practiced by anyone, at any age, regardless of level of flexibility and health, through modifications and props. The most important aspects of yoga are actually pranayama or breath work, and meditation, with the original purpose of an asana yoga practice being to prepare the body for meditation.

There are eight limbs of yoga: the asana practice, meditation, pranayama, the yogic precepts or guidelines for living a pure life of the yamas and niyamas, ahimsa, pratyahara or sense withdrawal, and enlightenment. To embrace yoga as a lifestyle includes practicing non-violence and following a vegetarian diet.

A daily practice will have an even deeper effect on your health and well-being. I offer a simple, one hour daily practice of holding the asanas for five minutes each that can be learnt in about a month, and then practiced at leisure on your own at home.

A weekly or daily practice will:

  • increase your flexibility, stamina, energy, and general well-being;
  • support your other physical activities and sports as the best cross-training there is;
  • improve your ability to handle stress;
  • help you feel good about your physical just the way it is, while improving your posture and facilitating potential weight loss;
  • result in an overall noticeable toning of the physIcal body.

Testimonials

Jennie taught Yoga to me and several neighbours for many years while she lived near Ottawa.  She is a yoga teacher like no other and the best yoga teacher that I have ever had.  She has a deep understanding of her practice and her attention to detail in classes is unsurpassed. Mentally and physically, you will feel better after her class.  When she moved away to Gabriola Island, we missed her a lot!  Recently we have tried her Zoom yoga class. What a treat after all the pandemic restrictions! I was lucky to have experienced a Thai  massage by Jennie as well.  It was wonderful! - Elizabeth W., Family Physician
